Cybercrime
“don’t damage computer systems you break into, don’t change the information in those systems, share information” clearly some people didn’t get the message. Cybercrime is a scary thing that everyone online should be careful of. Back in the day groups of people would come together and steal information from people online however the times have changed. These days groups of people use bot nets, one of the most known is gameover zeus. A bot net that uses ransom ware highjacks peoples systems and makes them release information in order to get their systems back. This bot net is one of the most effective in the world having a 13% infection rate in the USA.
Information is freedom
N00b,Pwn3d, h4x0r! classic online hacker talk (not really). Online hacking is an interesting topic to talk about with those who find weak points on websites and programs so the creators can adjust and fix the problems, hackers who intentionally steal information for personal gain in some way. “if it is true information we don’t care where it comes form. Let people fight with the truth and when the bodies are cleared there will be bullets of truth everywhere, that’s fine” (Jullian Assange). Hacker ethics is the sharing of information which mainly involves sharing information that is secret to the public. Jullian Assange is infamous for creating wikileaks which hosted information on the Iraq war among other information.
Participation is addictive
Believe it or not but participation is addictive. In this ever-gowning online world, posting something online can feel extremely rewarding when people comment and add to the information you post. Everyone has posted something online whether it be an Instagram, Facebook or reddit post, that feeling when you wake up in the morning is incredible which leads to wanting to post and engage more with others online, leading to gatewatching and a bridge made from pebbles. Depending on the person it can be unfortunate or fortunate as this increasing participation online has lead to a large number of political views being shared online (personally not a fan).
Production – Aggregation – Curation
The life cycle of information on the internet is a never ending cycle with information being produced, collected and managed. With this never ending cycle of information, users online begin to gatewatch. Gatewatching is when a variety of users come together to produce, collect and curate information online together. “Yes, it was built entirely out of 140 character messages, but the sum total of those tweets added up to something truly substantive, like a suspension bridge made of pebbles” (Steve Johnson). This Gatewatching leads to information online evolving and changing as multiple users engage with the information and change it leading to a “bridge made of pebbles”.
The internet
The internet is one of the greatest things ever made, bringing people all over the world closer together with each person able to share information with one another but it wasn’t always like this. Back in the early days of the internet it was a centralised system with one computer sharing information with everyone else however that has since changed into a decentralised system with each person sharing information with one another, with this change in the way the internet works the internet economy now runs on information.
Information is power
The most successful businesses on the internet – like eBay, yahoo, google and amazon – share one fundamental characteristic, the product these companies deliver is connectivity, bringing people together to trade, communicate, interact and exchange knowledge information, goods and services – Mark Deuze. As people say information is power and this is backed up by Mark Deuces quote about successful businesses on the internet. With these main companies allowing a wide spread connectivity between people whether it be to socialize or purchase goods the bottom line is that these companies could and have listened in and gathered information on the consumers who utilize these services, leading to targeted advertising of certain products to consumers who where unaware that that information about them had been gathered.
More connected than ever
The web is more a social creation than a technical one. I designed it for a social effect – to help people work together – and not as a technical toy. The ultimate goal of the web is to support and improve our weblike existence in the world. – Tim Berners-Lee. With the emergence of personal computers, connections between people on networks has only became stronger which each person being able to connect with anyone, anywhere. The internet these days is like a hive mind of information with people being able to find and share information from everywhere

The beginning of technological communications as we know it
Looking back on the history of technology and communications feels like a post straight out of R/showerthoughts. Its not that old. Beging in 1838, Samuel Morse created a system of long form communications using dots and dashes. Called Morse code, this was the first form of communication between 2 people that wasn’t written on a piece of paper or spoken directly. From here communication through technology slowly took off with nearly 60 years later the first radio telegraph being sent in 1895 (only 124 years ago). Now that may sound long however if you look at it compared to human history it really isn’t. described as a “network of nerves of iron wire” the new York tribune, suddenly telegraph wires were strung everywhere connecting people together while not being physically together. This revolutionary technology would pave the way for future of communications that we know today.
DA Pitch
V2!
We are back for round two of the DA pitches!
For my DA I am continuing my movie review podcast titled a Quick Review. I intend to continue with this particular project as films are something, I have held very dear to me my entire life and wish to share my opinions on the best and worst films that are being released and the classics that have come before. I am targeting an audience that want a straight to the point review of a particular movie that they can listen to on YouTube, SoundCloud and Spotify and ultimately decide if it is worth watching immediately (if it’s a new release) or wait till its super cheap to buy or just never watch the movie. I have also decided to continue with the podcast format as it is simple for my audience to find and listen to as well as being simple to produce meaning I can cover multiple movies in a limited time.
